Secure Attachment Comfort Serum+

First step, before you put anything else on. The one relationship you never get to leave — so we built it a primer. A minute where you soothe instead of brace.

  • Barrier support for stressed, reactive skin
  • Built around cortisol — the stress hormone tied to barrier breakdown (Choe SJ et al. (2018). Psychological stress deteriorates skin barrier function by activating the HPA axis in skin. Scientific Reports 8:6334. “Increased cortisol inhibits the differentiation of keratinocytes and decreases the expression of cytokines needed to maintain the barrier function.” — https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-24653-z)
  • Hydrates, grips, smooths — holds under makeup
  • The way you put it on is an active (Dreisoerner A et al. (2021). Self-soothing touch and being hugged reduce cortisol responses to stress. Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology 8:100091. “Cortisol levels in both touch conditions were significantly lower in comparison to the control condition for three out of four measurement occasions following the stress test.” — https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cpnec.2021.100091)

A minute is the dose.

No hour. A minute, and your two hands.

Warm a pump. Press it in slow — the pace of a careful sentence. (May AC et al. (2014). The role of the lateral orbitofrontal cortex in anhedonia (CT-afferent / pleasant touch). Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience 8:52. “CT afferents are found strictly in hairy human skin… and preferentially respond to types of pleasant touch often experienced during social interactions, specifically a gentle stroking at a velocity of 1–10 cm/s.” — https://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2014.00052)

That slowness is the active: it tells your body you're safe enough to stop bracing. (Dreisoerner A et al. (2021). Self-soothing touch and being hugged reduce cortisol responses to stress. Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology 8:100091. “Cortisol levels in both touch conditions were significantly lower in comparison to the control condition for three out of four measurement occasions following the stress test.” — https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cpnec.2021.100091) (von Au S et al. (2024). The neural correlates of self- versus other-touch. Social Neuroscience 19(4):231. “Self-soothing touch cannot replace social-touch regarding the hedonic effects, but it could be important for self-regulating mechanisms.”)

Somatic sensory ritual

How you show up for yourself shows up on your skin.

Stress, self-doubt, burnout — they don't just live in your mind. Your skin and your nervous system came out of the same place. (Dr. Byron Young, MD, Psychiatrist · Chief Medical Advisor, Advisor interview (T2): “Back when you're forming the embryo, the skin and the nervous system kind of come out of the same layer — the ectoderm.”) So this isn't a metaphor: the minute you spend pressing this in is a minute you spent choosing to soothe instead of brace.

Built on real mechanisms

How to use.

  1. Start on clean, dry skin. 1–2 pumps into hands; press gently to activate.

  2. Smooth upward, slower than feels efficient — about the pace of reading a careful sentence, the speed your skin's pleasant-touch nerves answer to. (May AC et al. (2014). The role of the lateral orbitofrontal cortex in anhedonia (CT-afferent / pleasant touch). Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience 8:52. “CT afferents are found strictly in hairy human skin… and preferentially respond to types of pleasant touch often experienced during social interactions, specifically a gentle stroking at a velocity of 1–10 cm/s.” — https://doi.org/10.3389/fnbeh.2014.00052) Let it absorb ~30s.

  3. Apply makeup or let the second-skin finish shine on its own.

The ingredients.

  • Cortinhib G™

Our cortisol-targeting active. Built to counteract what the stress hormone does to skin — it protects the skin's own hyaluronic acid and reinforces the barrier. (Choe SJ et al.

  • Squalane

    Moisture-locking lipid — lightweight, balancing, barrier-loving.

  • Hyaluronic Acid

Hydration magnet — draws water in, holds skin plump. The complex is built to protect your skin's own HA from breaking down.

  • Helichrysum Italicum

The Mediterranean flower (Immortelle), long used in calm-inducing skincare — our anchor botanical for stressed skin.

  • Marine Algae Complex

Seaweed extracts that hydrate, protect, defend.

  • Green Tea Extract

Antioxidant powerhouse that calms reactive skin.

I've repurchased this at least 4 or 5 times. I'm Asian with sensitive combination skin, prone to closed comedones and hormonal breakouts. I've been clearing my skin by making subtle lifestyle changes (sleep, managing stress, low intensity exercise, being mindful of but not wholly cutting out sugar or dairy) as well as basic skincare, particularly cleansing and moisturizing. If this sounds like you, I'll say that so much of fixing my closed comedones has come down to avoiding products that exacerbate it. I can't handle very thick/occlusive creams, but light moisturizers applied frequently have been a gamechanger. This one in particularly smells so good yet so light, causes no irritation and actually helps with any redness after more inflammatory acne bouts. I will be a customer for life.

    This product is so versatile!

This product is so versatile! Skincare-wise, it definitely helped me with my redness. Makeup-wise, it helped me turn my Hauslab foundation into a dewy serum that applied more consistently on my skin! 10/10 recommend ❤️

    EXTRAVAGANT

I love this! When I was younger and had more oily/combo skin it was a little on the thick side but as I’ve aged my skin has gotten more dry and it soaks this serum up like a sponge. So nourishing and leaves my skin dewey and like glass. EXTRAVAGANT

    It Speaks for Itself

Does this item need another 5 star review? No. Am I leaving one anyway? Yes. I love this serum to death and will keep coming back to it in my rotation for the layer of cushioning hydration, calm, and protection it brings my skin. And the proprietary ingredients to address skin reactivity and repair are a lovely addition! It also makes me feel like I'm doing something positive for my emotional healing journey

    Love it

I love this serum! The smell is bright and fresh but not overwhelming. The serum feels nice and light on my skin, which is helpful in humid NE summers! Make sure you pat it in, it does make a difference. Also I use this with my sacheu beauty roller and it’s lovely.

Frequently asked.

What does "Secure Attachment Comfort Serum+" mean?
It's the dual benefit: secure your skin barrier while creating a comforting, hydrated base for makeup or bare skin. Named after the psychology of secure attachment — trust, resilience, care. Our advisor Dr. Jeshana Avent-Johnson puts it: “The first relationship is with yourself — the longest one you'll ever have.” (Dr. Jeshana Avent-Johnson, Clinical psychologist · selfmade advisor, Secure Attachment Briefing (T7): “The relationship with self is the first relationship, the longest relationship you're going to have is with yourself.”)
How is this different from other primers or serums?
Most primers just prep for makeup. This one's built around cortisol (Choe SJ et al. (2018). Psychological stress deteriorates skin barrier function by activating the HPA axis in skin. Scientific Reports 8:6334. “Increased cortisol inhibits the differentiation of keratinocytes and decreases the expression of cytokines needed to maintain the barrier function.” — https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-24653-z) — and named for the first relationship: the one with yourself.
Why is the application part of the product?
Because slow self-touch is one of the actives (Dreisoerner A et al. (2021). Self-soothing touch and being hugged reduce cortisol responses to stress. Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology 8:100091. “Cortisol levels in both touch conditions were significantly lower in comparison to the control condition for three out of four measurement occasions following the stress test.” — https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cpnec.2021.100091) — it won't replace being held (von Au S et al. (2024). The neural correlates of self- versus other-touch. Social Neuroscience 19(4):231. “Self-soothing touch cannot replace social-touch regarding the hedonic effects, but it could be important for self-regulating mechanisms.”), but it gives you a reason, and something to feel while you do.
Can I use this without makeup?
Yes — the radiant second-skin finish stands on its own while still hydrating and supporting the barrier.
Is it suitable for melanated, oily, or dry skin?
Universal. Lightweight enough for oily, hydrating for dry, adaptive for melanated skin — no white cast.
Cruelty-free, vegan, sustainable?
100% cruelty-free and vegan. Sustainable sourcing throughout.
