Corrective Experience Comfort Cream

A corrective experience is the moment something contradicts the old pattern, and you get to feel differently about yourself. We named a cream after it, and built it for the minds that can't turn the volume down.

  • Goes beyond moisture. Supports brightness and resilience
  • Face + body hydration in one calming cream
  • Lightweight, fast-absorbing, non-greasy
  • Smooths, plumps, cools sensitive skin
  • Formulated for reactivity, stress, overstimulation

Last of this batch, making room for what’s next.

Any three formulas go for $75 — same or mixed.

Letting go has a texture.

Whipped light. One cream for face and body, made to sink in without a trace of grease.

Work it in wherever the day has been sitting: face, neck, the backs of your hands.

The jar asks the question. The minute you spend answering it is the dose.

Somatic sensory ritual

Your skin isn't just reacting. It's reliving.

This cream is the daily interruption: a minute where softness gets the last word.

Why we made Comfort Cream

  1. The term

A corrective experience is the moment the old pattern doesn't hold.

It's a clinical psychology term: an encounter that contradicts something you internalized long ago, so you get to feel differently about yourself. Our advisors kept it practical. Dr. Young's version: consistency, trust, relationships where you're safe to be your full self. We named a cream after the moment that starts.

  2. The question

How would it feel to give yourself permission to let go?

That's printed on the jar. You might think you need a stricter routine. What you actually need is one daily moment where the old pattern doesn't get reinforced. The cream is a 2-in-1 for face and body, so the moment can happen anywhere the tension is.

  3. The launch

Hand-labeled, because it had to ship.

The label machine at our manufacturer failed, so every jar in the first run was labeled by hand. Most of the pilot batch arrived damaged and got redone. Stephanie stickered the first hundred press boxes herself, from home. It shipped anyway. Which is, fittingly, a corrective experience.

Ten months, hand-built

From first calendar entry to launch. Every date here is on the record.

  1. 2021

    A cream gets a name

The first Comfort Cream entry lands in November. The concept work starts with the name already carrying the whole idea.

  2. 2022

Deep dive, then eleven weeks of company

April: back-to-back advisor interviews and a full-team deep dive on corrective experience with Dr. Young and Dr. Avent-Johnson. Summer: the Junior Advisory Board tests samples while the Comfort Cream Challenge runs for eleven weeks with the community. September 6: launch, hand-labeled. The same week, a book partnership with a Vietnamese-American debut novelist.

  3. 2026

    The final production run

The original four, made one final time. Every formula $28, shipping free.

    This is almost perfect....

This is almost perfect. The lotion itself *is* perfect. The only problem is packaging. The lid is flimsy, cross-threads constantly, and is next to impossible if you've just used it on your hands. The rounded base of the jar isn't stable enough to keep it from tipping over if it's not on a perfectly flat surface, (also a problem if your hands are slick) and I've already spilled way too much. I reallyreally hope the jar can be improved so it's as wonderful a quality as what's inside.

    Great product, bad container

5 stars for the product!! Smells amazing, you only need to use a little, and feels so good on my skin. The container is incredibly difficult to open and close after using it for a bit. Will order again!

    Just buy it!

I’m into this moisturizer! It’s cooling and soothing and has a mild scent! THE PACKAGING IS FINE! I’m happy it’s thinner plastic, I feel less like a climate criminal! I don’t have any trouble putting the lid on but IF YOU DO, you can just snap it on without rethreading it! And it comes off perfectly the next time you use it. Have traveled with it with no issue on the container. The company was kind enough to give me a $10 coupon for purchasing with the “sub par” packaging but truly…IT’s FINE! Enjoy your moisturizer! And 5 stars for customer service as well!

Frequently asked.

What is a corrective experience?
A clinical psychology term: an experience that contradicts the old story you carry about yourself, so a new one can start.
What is stressed skin?
Skin that's paying for what's going on around you and in you. (Choe SJ et al. (2018). Psychological stress deteriorates skin barrier function by activating the HPA axis in skin. Scientific Reports 8:6334. “Increased cortisol inhibits the differentiation of keratinocytes and decreases the expression of cytokines needed to maintain the barrier function.” — https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-018-24653-z). It shows up as dryness, dullness, irritation, new texture, new sensitivity.
I have sensitive skin. Can I use it?
Designed with sensitive skin in mind. Check with your dermatologist if you're unsure.
Where does it fit in my routine?
Face: after serum, before SPF. Body: as needed daily.
Is this really the final production run?
Yes. The original four, made one final time. When it sells through we won't restock, and we won't count it down; the page will just say sold out. Until then, every formula is $28, whatever it carried before.

Our homework

Not receipts. Homework. Every underlined claim on this page opens the working behind it: the peer-reviewed paper, or the advisor session on the record. We're self-taught here, so we show it. And what we're still checking, we say. Our own clinical numbers stay held until they're independently signed off. Homework isn't a victory lap.
